When life imitates art! HRC's first post election event

Wed May 07, 2008 at 02:26:53 PM PDT

File under "you can't make this sh%t up".  Clinton's first stop on her Election 2008 Farewell Tour was Shepard University.  Ironically, the event was held at McMurran Hall.

According to historical evidence:

Shepherd University's white brick McMurran Hall was under construction as Shepherdstown's town hall in 1862, when the battle of Antietam overwhelmed the city with thousands of wounded; with no place left to go, the bloody and the maimed occupied the still unfinished building -- a bit of history now celebrated in plaques on the front lawn.

So basically Clinton held her limping campaign in front of a building historically noted for accommodating severely injured soldiers.  Irony doesn't get any better than that.

The event was hastily arranged and only a few hundred supporters attended.  Of course, with instant Karma smacking the campaign senseless, supporters were witness to the universe's own attempt at a wake-up call.

According to the Washington Post:

Signs of a last-minute event were everywhere. Security was minimal, and problems with the sound system gave the Clinton staff fits; it didn't help that one of the men working the sound system wore an Obama T-shirt.

"I'm not turning it inside out," he said, when Clinton supporters protested. In the back of the crowd, a camera riser collapsed with a huge crash, sending bodies, coffee and cameras flying. "Metaphor?" a reporter asked as he picked himself off the ground? "Metaphor," confirmed another.

Clinton, "this is your captain calling, with an urgent warning" that the the universe is calling.  You might want to answer that.

6 o'clock in the morning & i'm the last person in this plane still awake
Y'know I can almost smell the blood
washing against the shores,
Of this land that can't forget its past.
Oh the wind that carries this plane, is the wind of change,
heaven sent and hell bent!
over the mountain tops we go, just like all the other GI Joes

EE-AY-EE-AY----adios!

This is your captain calling--"with an urgent warning"
We're above the Gulf of Arabia--"our altitude is falling"
& I can't hold her up--"there's no time for thinking"
All hands on deck--"this bird is sinking"
